Return to Sinai

Click here (UNESCO) to view several pictures of the Saint Catherine monastery complex in Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, a site which figures into scriptural stories about Moses, Elijah, and (at least indirectly) Jesus...

Your thoughts about the environment of this site, and its conduciveness to supernatural experiences?

I could see that a person would be able to focus because it did not look like there would be to many distractions. I think it would be easier to tune into each other.

The land as it appears in the picture is harsh and unforgiving. A person could quickly become dehydrated, or hurt climbing mountains like Sinai. Such instances could easily trigger an ASC. Also, the lack of stimuli going out to a place like that alone could trigger an ASC through sensory deprivation. And say if sensory deprivation and dehydration occurred at the same time, it could create a potent ASC.

I agree with Sydney, a person could get dehydrated climbing such mountains as these and could trigger a very potent ASC because of lack of stimuli and dehydration. On their own, each of these factors could trigger an ASC. With the space lacking in people, you wouldn't get interrupted.

As stated above, the dehydration, elevation and lack of stimulus make experiencing an ASC in this location relatively easy. Also, the vastness and stark nature of the geology is pretty awe-inspiring which could also make it easier to connect with spirits or the natural world or whatever it is that a person is trying to connect to.
