Early Jesus(es)

  • Click here to learn about the oldest known icon of the founder, fully half a millennium after his life.
  • Click here to see an ancient fresco, a little closer to the original.
  • Click here to learn about a possible (miraculous or fraudulent?) ancient-contemporary version.
What are your own observations and thoughts about this ancient religious iconography? About the controversies surrounding its authenticity?

This is very interesting but I am not concvinced if it is real or not.

I also have not been convinced of the Shroud of Turin's authenticity. The Christ Pantocrator Sinai Icon and the Christ Between St. Peter and St. Paul are not subject to same dispute over authenticity (is this really what Jesus looked like?) because it is known that they are artistic impressions. The depictions themselves are beautiful and because they are the oldest known, are what people base their conception of what Jesus looked like around. Simply because they are the oldest. This is why the Shroud is so important. It would mean a great deal to all christians to know the face of their redeemer.

I am not truly convinced about the authenticity of these items but especially the shroud to turin. christian artifacts are among some of the most faked treasures in the world.

I could see how people could believe this is real if people were just told what it was and didn't get to look at it close up. Personally, like others who have commented before me, I'm not convinced. I can see the evidence that it is real but I also see the evidence that it could be made by anyone.
