A Crowded Cosmos

Click here (theoi.com) to view several of the ancient Greek (and later, Roman) daimones: supernatural powers/forces that (usually) did the bidding of the deities...

Any favorites?

My favourites are Hebe and Soteria. I really like the descriptions of the Gods and Goddesses, but those are the two I enjoyed reading about the most.

Ever since I was young, I have always had an interest in Greek and Roman Gods and how many of them are the same and how different each of them are. The ones that stand out the most to me are Eros and Hygeia, the God of Love and the Goddess of Health.

I think my favorites were Mnemosyne and Hygeia. I was particularly interested in Mnemosyne, because she seems to be a "goddess of many hats" if you will. A broad-reaching resume.

My favorite is Dike, goddess of justice.

I was surprised at the spectrum these daimones covered, such as emotions (what I thought they all were exclusively until this posting), human condition, qualities, etc. That makes seemingly every aspect of daily life for a Greek/Roman ruled by a 'spirit', as well as having hundreds of gods and their actions mixed up in everything. That is indeed a crowded cosmos.

I was surprised to find Musica as a daimon. I would not have suspected music to have its own spirit. But if there are spirits in wine that induce people to feel certain ways, I suppose the feeling music induces in a person goes along the same line of reasoning.

I liked the depictions of these diamones very much. If I had to choose I think my favorite would be Nike since I always try to win.

This is a nice list. I enjoyed looking through it. I like learning about the Ancient Greek and Roman Gods.I think I like Eudaemonic- Happiness and Harmonia- Harmony. Because I strive to have a happy harmious life and help others to find that for themselves.
