Prophecy.edu

Click here (ynetnews.com) to read about a new 'Prophetic Academy' in the land that put Biblical prophets on the map...

Your thoughts about such an endeavor? Is prophecy something that can be taught? Or does it spring forth more organically (and/or, divinely)?

I am surprised by this. All the prophets (as far as I understand) in the Torah were chosen by God to prophesy -- they all lived 'regular' lives before the call. So the fact that a rabbi would see this 'artificial' teaching as "kosher" strikes me as very unusual. In fact, the things he cites as teaching such as face reading and dream interpretation sound more like astrological concepts to me. Legitimate prophesy as seen in the Torah I do not believe can be taught.

This is surprising. I definitely don't feel like prophetic skills can be taught. Because prophesy is of God, then how could man ever understand or solicit prophesy? Creating potential prophets who might be more viable as such does not necessarily mean that God will shop among them for his next intermediary. I hesitate to pass judgement on others' religious practice, but I feel as though this is definitely questionable.
